About Dr. Jessica Poyer

Dr. Jessica Poyer is an educational leader, coach, and district-level administrator with more than 21 years of experience serving public school districts across New York State. 

Her work focuses on strengthening leadership teams, aligning instructional and support systems, and building pathways that prepare every learner for college, career, and community life.

Jessica learned so much in her first career as a Broadcast Journalist, and entered the education field as a classroom teacher, serving students in inclusive settings for 15 years. That experience continues to shape her leadership, grounding her work in the realities of teaching and the importance of providing educators with the structures, resources, and collective efficacy needed to meet the needs of all learners.

Why “Bette”?

The name Bette (pronounced bet) honors the life and work of Jessica’s mother, Betty Jo, a classroom teacher who devoted her career to serving rural communities.

Growing up, Jessica had a front-row seat to the power of advocacy, high expectations, and belief in every child’s potential. Her grandmother, speaking in her warm Australian accent, affectionately called her daughter “Bette,” a name that has come to represent resilience, inclusion, and opportunity.
